There are a lot of black wings going around for guys, they're large, dark and spikey, and/or attached to a ripped torso - symbolizing power. For the girls, the wings are wispy and small. While it's quite impossible to attach them to a ripped torso without bordering on indecency in their case, the girls are usually wearing dresses or skirts - usually very effeminate and soft. I would really like to see some more badass-looking female angel wings - though the cover for Angel by L.A. Weatherly does make the girl look less delicate.
I'm kind of confused why the wings for the girl in the Dreamdark covers shrinks in size when she's beside a male fairy. It's fine if it's plot-specific, but if it's just to make the guy seem more powerful (admittedly, in butterfly wings), I'm a bit disappointed at the artist.
I would commend the artists for the two Lackey books that make the female characters' wings seem both delicate and powerful. The comparison between the two Pegasus covers also makes me think of the treatment of them as "transportation tool" or "equal", as well as whether the creatures' willingness to carry their rider factors into this...

One of the reasons I decided to buy the entire Marla Mason series (at the time books 1-3) at full price when I saw them at the bookstore was because I really loved the cover art. It's not really "refined/clean" beauty, but what I adored about it was definitely the hands. If you look at close-ups of the covers, you will see what I mean: the hands are gorgeous. The fingernails, the knuckles, the fingers themselves ♥♥♥ And by association, the arm muscles as well. I personally love hands and muscles in art because they're the hardest portions to master in my opinion. Tattoos are cool too 8D

The title is usually of great importance to a book cover. I love it when cover artists take the time to really fancify the titles rather than just slap them on half-assed in the default Times New Roman font (though that works for some designs). Covers like those of Magic Under Glass (old ver.) and Bleeding Violet, and a lot of smaller-name publisher books, suffer greatly from the horrible fonts/effects used for the titles despite gorgeous cover images.

Hands are very expressive. I've always adored looking at hands because they make so many shapes and can form so many meanings. As someone who draws for a hobby, hands are almost always the hardest to draw, so I spend a lot of time studying their structure and lines. I also love pictures of people touching hands. Whether it's holding, engaging in a pinky swear (couldn't find an example, sadly), or even just hooking one or two fingers together.
