Drood
by Dan Simmons
On June 9, 1865, while traveling by train to London with his secret mistress, 53-year-old Charles Dickens--at the height of his powers and popularity, the most famous and successful novelist in the world and perhaps in the history of the world--hurtled into a disaster that changed his life forever.
Did Dickens begin living a dark double life after the accident? Were his nightly forays into the worst slums ofLondon and his deepening obsession with corpses, crypts, murder, opium dens, the use of lime pits to dissolve bodies, and a hidden subterranean London mere research...or something more terrifying?

Didn't know quite so much about this author, but I am currently very much in the mood for horror stories, especially ones without romance to fluff it out.

Wish
by Alexandra Bullen
For broken-hearted Olivia Larsen, nothing can change the fact that her twin sister, Violet, is gone...until a mysterious, beautiful gown arrives on her doorstep. The dress doesn't just look magical; it is magical. It has the power to grant her one wish, and the only thing Olivia wants is her sister back.
With Violet again by her side, both girls get a second chance at life. And as the sisters soon discover, they have two more dresses - and two more wishes left. But magic can't solve everything, and Olivia is forced to confront her ghosts to learn how to laugh, love, and live again.

I'm hoping this is a YA sorta Monkey's Paw-type story, though I don't expect corpses/zombies or anything lol. I admit I am quite fascinated by twins too. Something fluffy and qualifies for the "genre never tried before" (fluffy YA) section of some challenges.

And then, since I've been earning Swagbucks like crazy, I treated myself to three books from Amazon for free 8D Two arrived on Friday, still waiting on the third~

The Seven-Per-Cent Solution
by Nicholas Meyer
First discovered and then painstakingly edited and annotated by Nicholas Meyer, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution relates the astounding and previously unknown collaboration of Sigmund Freud with Sherlock Holmes, as recorded by Holmes's friend and chronicler, Dr. John H. Watson. In addition to its breathtaking account of their collaboration on a case of diabolic conspiracy in which the lives of millions hang in the balance, it reveals such matters as the real identity of the heinous professor Moriarty, the dark secret shared by Sherlock and his brother Mycroft Holmes, and the detetctive's true whereabouts during the Great Hiatus, when the world believed him to be dead.

Why? BECAUSE.
Because I am shamelessly obsessed with Sherlock Holmes stuff right now (like I was with Star Trek). And because I feel Mr. Freud has tortured me enough by popping up all over EVERY psychology textbook I own (I predict I've spent 1/4 of every year in Uni so far learning about him, WTF). And so I'd like to see him SUFFER the insanity of Holmes DDDD8
...am I the only one loving the way per-cent is spelled with a hyphen, as in "per-hundred"? Is it the British spelling?

October Daye #1:
Rosemary and Rue
by Seanan McGuire
October "Toby" Daye, a changeling who is half human and half fae, has been an outsider from birth. After getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the Faerie world, retreating to a "normal" life. Unfortunately for her, the Faerie world has other ideas...
The murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back into the fae world. Unable to resist Evening's dying curse, which binds her to investigate, Toby must resume her former position as knight errant and renew old alliances. As she steps back into fae society, dealing with a cast of characters not entirely good or evil, she realizes that more than her own life will be forfeited if she cannot find Evening's killer.

This series sounds so kickass, and amazingly there's nothing about romance in the blurb a la "most importantly of all, can she escape her dangerous attraction to some hot dude she met two seconds ago!?" (nothing wrong with it on its own, but it's starting to get overused, especially with other "tough female" books). Plus, she's a KNIGHT 8D
