On the treacherous streets of Riverside, a man lives and dies by the sword. Even the nobles on the Hill turn to duels to settle their disputes. Within the elite, a dangerous world, Richard St. Vier is the undisputed master, as skilled as he is ruthless - until a death by the sword is met with outrage instead of awe, and the city discovers that the line between hero and villain can be altered in the blink of an eye...
This one was recommended by Ah Yuan very enthusiastically, and I totally love the brute/frills couple dynamics she described, so I nabbed it 8D

In the Valley of Sorrows, a monk is brutally murdered for a worthless manuscript, and the abbot of the humble monastery calls upon Master Li and Number Ten Ox to investigate the seemingly senseless killing. The most likely suspect is the infamous Laughing Prince, founder of the valley, whose murderous frenzies have made him a legend. But even Master Li must concede that the prince has a pretty good alibi: he's been dead for more than seven hundred years.
Undaunted, Master Li and Number Ten Ox begin their search for the Laughing Prince. Together they roam a mystical countryside populated by demons, ghosts, murderers, and mad kings to the very gates of heaven itself - and what they find there is stranger still.
Finally completed my collection of the Master Li and Number Ten Ox series! This book is number 2 in the series, but apparently the hardest thing to find. I think the books are all out of print too, so really glad I found this, and so cheap too~
